Treasurer-Tax Collector
The Riverside County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to appoint Paul McDonnell
Treasurer-Tax Collector and he assumed office March 21, 1998. He was first
elected to the countywide seat in November 1998 and re-elected to a second
four-year term in March 2002. Prior to assuming office he spent nineteen years
in the financial services industry, including fourteen years with Wall Street
firms, specializing in local government finance. During this time he served
some of California's biggest cities and counties, including the County of
Riverside.
The Treasurer-Tax Collector's office has a staff of approximately 85.
It collects approximately $2.1 billion in taxes, processes approximately
$6 billion in total annual receipts and manages a $3.5 billion portfolio.
The office not only manages funds on behalf of County government, but it
also provides a similar function for most of the school districts within
the County, as well as other public agencies.
As Treasurer-Tax Collector Mr. McDonnell has initiated a transformation of the
office to improve its efficiency and accountability to the public. The
California State Association of Counties, the Government Finance Officers
Association and Civic.com have recognized Mr. McDonnell for these
accomplishments.
Mr. McDonnell's academic background includes an MBA (Finance) from UCLA and BA
degree (Political Science) from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a
native Californian and married with four children.
