ANSWERS: The assessor's information pages pick up where real-estate agents might leave off.
Riverside County has made its property-tax system a little less taxing by creating a Web site to help users navigate the multilayered bureaucracy, county officials said recently.
"We wanted to provide property owners with one site where they could get a general overview of the property-tax system and who to go to if they have problems," said Larry Ward, county assessor-clerk recorder.
The Web site provides answers to frequently asked questions about subjects such as the Homeowner's Exemption, Prop. 60, the initiative passed by voters in 1986 that provides property-tax relief under certain conditions for those 55 and older, and the parent/child exclusion.
It also lets homebuyers know they should expect a supplemental tax bill and how their property taxes are being used.
